A Number of Funnies

It took me a little more than a week to realize that I didn't document a fabulous story from our Chartres trip! It was screaming to be blogged. So after our first tour we took a break and got some lunch at a pizza place in the town. Our professor's daughter and I needed to use the restroom, so off we went. To our great luck, it was a men and women's bathroom. Inside, there was a men's stall and a women's stall, but we decided to just wait til the guys from our group were done, then we went inside. Oh and did I mention there was also a urinal just out in the open? So I'm washing my hands while Kate is still in the stall and in walks a man. I felt super uncomfortable to be in the restroom with a man there, so I tried to hurry but had to wait for Kate. Just as I looked up to dry my hands, I see in the mirror that this man is using the urinal right behind me! Like 4 feet away! I ran out of the bathroom in horror and waited for Kate out there. I guess that is just how the French do it.
While we are on the topic, I just found out that when Karin was at girl's camp and the men's bathrooms were used as women's bathrooms, she thought the urinal was a footwasher. So she washed her feet in it.

We did some more yoga this week! This was one of our favorite stretches. And a grand picture taking opportunity...?

We were all big fans of our workout clothes/boots ensemble.

There is a really sweet American family in our ward named the Shurtleff's. A couple weeks ago they invited us over for Sunday dinner! They are so welcoming and friendly and it felt so great to have an American meal. It made us feel at home. They told us that we were welcome to come over any time. Although they may have just said that to be polite, we took them up on that! We went over their weekend and made cookies, played some Wii (this picture is in the midst of some intense Wii boxing), and watched a movie. Did you know that they don't even have chocolate chips in France? They get theirs from the American base. They must have to get a ton every time to save up!

We also went to Pizza Hut last week for lunch for their "maxi buffet". Unfortunately, we were seated in a horrible location. We are thinking that it was the people next to us that smelled absolutely terrible. Zach and I were the closest and we had to keep our pizza to our noses to keep from gagging. Luckily we survived.

I titled this blog "A Number of Funnies", having a few things in mind to write about. However I decided against writing about some of them because Karin just said them so perfectly in her blog! So if anyone wants to read about our humorous lives some more, go there! Oh and about that video clip that I said I would post...I guess it was too big so it won't work at all. Sorry!

Also, we are going to Nice this weekend! We are all so excited so see the Mediterranean and hopefully experience a little better weather than the snow we've been having here. Karin and I both got made fun of for calling the trains we rode on to Chartres TGV's. Apparently they were just regular trains. But this time we really are riding on the TGV's and we look forward to it with great excitement.

  2. Hi Allison! It was so fun to catch up on your blog....it has been a crazy 2 weeks moving and not having internet. I love your bathroom story! Now we can sit down and share some fun b-room and cultural stories when you get back...I have plenty of stories from Brazil to share!

It sounds like you're having so much fun enjoying the culture, food, and people! We miss you a lot but are glad that you are in Paris! Tchau.
